Successful installation of second pedestrian bridge 'Passerelle des Plaisanciers' for the Rives Ardentes eco-district in Liège.

Last week, on Wednesday 13 December 2023, the consortium of Willemen Groep, Jan De Nul Group and CIT Blaton successfully installed the 'Passerelle des Plaisanciers' for Rives Ardentes.

With a length of 38 metres, a width of 3.2 metres and a weight of approximately 60 tonnes, the pedestrian bridge was assembled in one piece in the workshops of CSM Steelstructures and brought to the site with an exceptional night transport. Two cranes of 400 and 700 tonnes respectively were used to build the bridge.

This pedestrian bridge is the second to be installed in the new Rives Ardentes eco-district on the 25 hectare Coronmeuse site in Liège. These footbridges span the 'Darse de Meuse' and connect the parks, residential areas and facilities of Rives Ardentes, not only with the neighboring Saint-Léonard district, but also with the center of the city of Liège.

A new urban connection for the Rives Ardentes eco-district

Earlier in September 2023, the 'Passerelle des Reflets' was inaugurated to the west of the site, a bicycle and pedestrian bridge accessible to all users of soft mobility and people with reduced mobility. With the installation of the 'Passerelle des Plaisanciers' on Wednesday, December 13, the development of the Rives Ardentes eco-district has reached another important milestone. With a view of the future new marina, this second bridge occupies a key position among the living spaces being developed around the Darse and the Maas. The 'Passerelle des Plaisanciers' ensures that walkers can easily cross the marina and allows them to make a walking loop past the various horeca establishments and other facilities spread across the marina and the 'Darse de Meuse'.

A modern architectural work of art

This bridge is an excellent example of modern architecture. The arched metal structure, embellished with elegant railings and a steel trellis, is both practical and aesthetic. The wooden stairs, with open risers, make for a pleasant walk and offer beautiful views of the marina. The Passerelle des Plaisanciers, intended for pedestrians and equipped with a rail for bicycles, facilitates access to the catering terraces and shops.

Follow the project

As the complete infrastructure works and landscaping have not yet been completed, the ‘Passerelle des Plaisanciers’ will not be accessible until after the official inauguration of the Rives Ardentes site, which should take place in spring 2024.
